Where Did This Closet Come From?

The other day I left my house in a hurry. That’s not actually abnormal. I have three kids, and my life is busy. So leaving in a hurry is pretty much the norm for me. In my rush to herd the kids into the car, I left without picking up a mask. It never crossed my mind. I dropped the kids off at their schools, and afterward, I had to run to the grocery store. There I sat, in the parking lot, with no mask.

No big deal. I keep a box of disposable, surgical-style masks in my car for the kids. They always forget to grab a mask. They are sized for children, but luckily my face is small enough that they fit. So I grabbed a random mask from the box and headed into the store. Now, these aren’t your run-of-the-mill yellow or blue surgical masks. They are made for kids, and each box features a range of designs and bright colors. The particular mask I was donning that morning featured a tie-died rainbow swirl. These are my 8-year-old’s favorite masks to wear.

I was barely two minutes into my shopping when someone stopped me to tell me I had a fantastic mask. It hid a wide smile as I thanked the young woman. She was decked out in rainbows. That smile stayed with me for the rest of the day. It was actually one of the best days I’ve had in months. Even my husband and my children…
